The date
November 12, 2026, local midnight, for digital preorders on PS5 & Xbox Series X|S, plus physical codes redeemed from the November 12 box.
November 12, 2026, at local midnight. Digital preorders of Grand Theft Auto VI on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S can begin pre-loading on November 12, 2026. The game unlocks Thursday, November 19, 2026. Rockstar has not published an install size.
Take-Two’s June 25, 2026 preorder announcement says players who preorder digital versions can begin pre-loading on November 12, 2026 so they can play at launch on November 19, 2026. The same release says the physical version, a download code inside the box, is available starting that day to support pre-loading. It does not include a disc.
Rockstar Support’s platforms and editions article adds the clock: pre-load begins at local midnight on November 12, 2026. Codes redeemed before launch begin pre-loading on that date. The Ultimate Edition is digital-only, so there is no Ultimate box to wait on — see the editions comparison for Standard versus Ultimate.
Pre-loading does not change the launch date and it is not early access. For the hour the game unlocks in a given store region, use the release-time guide. Those are storefront timestamps, and they can move.
Preorders opened
Take-Two said preorders began at midnight local time on the Rockstar, PlayStation, and Xbox stores.
Preload opens
Digital preorders can begin pre-loading. The physical Standard Edition — a download code in the box, not a disc — is available the same day so redeemed codes can preload too.
Game unlocks
Pre-loading is so you can play at launch on PS5 & Xbox Series X|S. It does not move the release date, and it is not early access.
Nobody official has said. The Take-Two preorder release and Rockstar’s support article name the preload date and the code-in-a-box physical edition. They do not name gigabytes, a day-one patch size, or a storage requirement for PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.
Ranges you will see elsewhere — 130 GB, 150 GB, 200 GB, 250 GB, 300 GB — are estimates. They disagree with each other because they are not measurements. Clear space before November 12, 2026 if your console drive is tight, but do not treat any of those figures as the install size. This page will name a number only after Rockstar or a first-party store listing publishes one.

No official install size, no official day-one patch size, and no PC build whose requirements could stand in for the console download.
Digital preload starts November 12, 2026 at local midnight for preorders on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Take-Two set that date in its preorder announcement; Rockstar Support states the local-midnight clock.
Not announced. Rockstar and Take-Two have not published an install size. Gigabyte figures on other sites are estimates, not a specification.
No. Pre-loading exists so a digital preorder is ready to play at launch on November 19, 2026. It is not early access.
The physical edition is a download code in a box, not a disc, and it goes on sale November 12, 2026 so buyers can preload. The download starts after that code is redeemed. There is no physical Ultimate Edition.
The launch date is November 19, 2026. PlayStation Store listings show regional timestamps rather than one worldwide clock, and those timestamps can change. See the release-time guide for the listings that have been checked.
