The Stanier is a Vapid four-door sedan that underpinned GTA IV's Taxi and Police Cruiser before appearing as a named civilian car in GTA V and GTA Online, and it is due to appear in Grand Theft Auto VI. Its in-game lore paints it as the archetypal 1990s cab and cop car, discontinued after reports of exploding fuel tanks.
September 2022 leak sightings
The Stanier was visible in two September 2022 Grand Theft Auto VI leak clips. A red example stood parked on the Ocean Drive-inspired street in Vice Beach, close to Lucia. A second, blue car was only faintly visible as it travelled north past the Gas Stop on Route 2 in Port Gellhorn.
These clips show a body shape close to the GTA V and GTA Online civilian Stanier, but with revised chrome and plastic exterior trim, rear lamps, cabin details, and wheels. The wheels carry Vapid badges, and a high-mounted third stop lamp is visible behind the rear glass. No trailer timestamp, official screenshot, or promotional appearance is identified for the vehicle.
Crown Victoria and Marquis roots
Its main real-world basis is the first-generation Ford Crown Victoria, chassis code EN53. The headlamp treatment and broad rear-end design also draw from the second-generation Mercury Grand Marquis, while the Stanier keeps Crown Victoria-style tail lamps.
A dark insert across the rear may reference the second-generation Crown Victoria, EN114. Its front and rear bumper shapes resemble those of the second-generation Ford Taurus, DN5. The bonnet and grille have second-generation Crown Victoria influence, though the grille is closer in form to that of the twelfth-generation Cadillac Eldorado or fourth-generation Chevrolet Caprice.
From service cars to civilian
In GTA IV, the Stanier design was used for Vapid-based service vehicles rather than a separately named civilian model: the Taxi, Police Cruiser, and NOOSE Cruiser. GTA V and GTA Online established Stanier as the name of the civilian sedan, while the Taxi and Police Cruiser returned with a newer, second-generation look.
That later service-car family also included the Sheriff Cruiser and Unmarked Cruiser. The newer model was initially unnamed, then received the Stanier LE designation after GTA Online’s The Chop Shop update. A first-generation Stanier police car appeared in GTA V’s first trailer with LSPD markings and GTA IV-style equipment; it appears to have been a reskin that was replaced during development by the second-generation Police Cruiser.
V and Online specifications
In GTA V and GTA Online, the Vapid Stanier is classified as a Sedan and has a full-size four-door body. Its standard wheel design is shared with the Minivan. The GTA IV Taxi and Police Cruiser instead used heavy-duty steel wheels with low-profile tyres and projecting chrome centre caps modelled after Ford Type 146 caps; comparable rims also appeared on the Merit Taxi, Buffalo police cruiser, and Police Interceptor.
The civilian car shares much of the second-generation Police Cruiser’s handling character. It uses a modified twin-cam V8 and rear-wheel drive, has above-average top speed, carries speed through tight bends with visible body lean, and can slide under power into corners. It is also described as withstanding repeated direct damage to its chassis, drivetrain, and suspension.
Spawns, price, and faults
In GTA V, Staniers appear around Strawberry and sometimes in Richman. GTA Online places them commonly in Strawberry and Rockford Hills, with further sightings around Vinewood Hills, West Vinewood, and Cypress Flats. Southern San Andreas Super Autos sold the car for $10,000; it was removed during the San Andreas Mercenaries update and restored with Money Fronts. Los Santos Customs pays $1,000 for one.
Harvey Molina owns a red first-generation Stanier, plate 83QSL722, during the GTA V mission Cleaning out the Bureau. Original releases of GTA V and Online displayed a floating computer monitor above the centre console, apparently a leftover Police Cruiser component from GTA IV; enhanced editions corrected it. Burst tyres can also leave parts of the wheels invisible. The civilian Stanier fills a role similar to the 3D Universe Premier in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, as the ordinary counterpart to taxi and police-car designs.
