Sandking XL

In Grand Theft Auto V, the Sandking XL appeared on trails around Blaine County and could be found at several fixed or recurring locations. These included the Del Perro Beach triathlon area, trailers beside Del Perro Pier, a house near the western end of Joshua Road in the Grand Senora Desert, and the end of a dirt track in Palomino Highlands by the Pacific.

It could also appear after the offshore approach to The Merryweather Heist, once the Cargobob had been taken. During Los Santos Drug Wars' Fooligan Job: Crop Dustin', an accessible XL was parked on Procopio Beach when the herbicide-equipped Sadler was at Procopio Truck Stop. Rednecks are identified as owners in that job.

The XL was sold through Southern San Andreas Super Autos for $45,000 in both GTA V and GTA Online. In GTA Online it could be sold at Los Santos Customs for $4,500. It was an uncommon traffic vehicle in Sandy Shores, but appeared more regularly on Senora Way in northern Los Santos County.

Larry's RV Sales could generate two modified NPC examples from 09:00 to 17:00: a yellow customized pickup valued at $17,525, and a Worn Light Blue full-size SUV with Pfister Pink pearlescent paint valued at $18,495. The yellow truck was worth $16,375 between patches 1.51 and 1.52. Bringing a standard Sandking, an XL, or another pre-modified vehicle could improve the chance of these vehicles appearing. Modified XLs also repeatedly appeared at the gas-station exit in the Contact mission Time To Get Away, near the road leading toward the Lago Zancudo bridge; they could rarely be encountered there in Free Mode as well.

The Sandking XL's principal real-world basis is the third-generation Ford Super Duty. Its styling also incorporates cues from the first and second Super Duty generations, particularly at the rear lights. The split headlamp arrangement draws on multiple generations of Chevrolet Silverado pickups.

It is a light truck in the Off-Road class in GTA V and GTA Online. The XL designation reflects its longer wheelbase compared with the Sandking SWB. It uses an aftermarket lift, deeply treaded off-road tyres, and impact struts that run from beneath the vehicle's centre toward its wheels. Blue dampers and springs remain visible in the exposed suspension. Unlike the Sadler and the later Caracara and Caracara 4x4, it lacks the F-Series-style beltline dip beside the mirrors.

A single-cam V8 model gives the XL strong power and torque for clearing obstacles and low cars, while its substantial ride height supports that role. Its engine note resembles the Landstalker's, but at higher revs, producing a diesel-like sound. The longer wheelbase makes its turning circle, acceleration, and gear changes less effective than those of the shorter Sandking SWB.

On paved roads, the truck's weight and limited grip make it difficult to handle. It behaves better away from the road, although its mass and length still place limits on it among off-road vehicles; suspension upgrades make a noticeable difference. Its uncovered tyres are vulnerable to gunfire unless bulletproof tyres are fitted. Early versions lacked effective four-wheel drive on steep slopes, but update 1.08 gave it functioning 4WD and substantially improved its off-road ability. Patch 1.13 later changed both Sandking models from AWD to RWD unintentionally, before patch 1.14 restored AWD.

One model quirk from its earlier appearance is the absence of B-pillars: its rear doors seem to be supported without a proper central pillar.
