The Outlaw is a Nagasaki side-by-side off-road buggy that entered GTA Online with The Diamond Casino Heist update. The vehicle is due to make a return in Grand Theft Auto VI.

GTA VI sightings

The Outlaw appears in green at the Thrillbilly Mud Club in the first Grand Theft Auto VI trailer, at 0:56. That sighting places the buggy in the Vice City area.

It also appears in an official Vice City screenshot. In that image, a heavily modified example is travelling on Vice-Dale County Road 561, in La Perle. These are the identified GTA VI appearances; the vehicle’s GTA Online mechanical specifications and availability do not confirm how it will function in the new game.

Earlier Online release

The Outlaw first arrived with GTA Online’s The Diamond Casino Heist update. At first it was restricted to the Getaway Vehicles preparation, then it could be assigned as a Casino Heist escape vehicle. It became purchasable during Outlaw Week on January 23, 2020.

Southern San Andreas Super Autos listed it for $1,268,000. The price fell to $951,000 for players who completed The Diamond Casino Heist as leader and used an Outlaw for the escape. Chester McCoy could randomly assign one of two pre-modified Outlaw variants among four possible getaway-vehicle sets. San Andreas Mercenaries later used it as a possible ground vehicle for moving hangar cargo along an off-road route.

Chassis and exposed cabin

In GTA Online, Nagasaki classified the Outlaw as an Off-Road vehicle. It is a bulky side-by-side buggy with an open cockpit, a roll cage, large visible suspension springs, and a raised rear containing an exposed engine. It has neither a conventional hood nor a trunk.

Its doors swing unusually far outward, creating a wing-like position when open. Race-oriented controls occupy the centre console, while the driver’s dashboard includes an F/R-marked knob that appears to relate to a rear- or four-wheel-drive locking differential. The instrument cluster uses two analogue gauges with a digital display between them, closely resembling the arrangement in the Raptor.

Styling influences and paint

The stated real-world influence is incomplete: the available identification does not name the main vehicle or the models said to provide its grille, push bars, side skirts, and other details. It does identify an exhaust resembling aftermarket equipment or exhausts used by the Maverick X3. Its side outline and some panels are compared with an unnamed buggy.

Primary paint covers much of the nose, the lower intake, trim beside the headlights, skirt details, upper door areas, part of the rear, and the rear vent or exhaust surround. Secondary paint is used for the front bars, chassis, roll cage, and wheel pivot arms. Its standard wheels match GTA Online’s Flat Six off-road rims.

Powertrain and road behavior

The GTA Online model appears to use a flat-twin engine like that fitted to the FCR 1000 and FCR 1000 Custom. It is mounted amidships and drives all four wheels through a three-speed transmission; fully upgraded transmissions add a fourth gear. Its engine audio is a lowered, altered version of the sound used by sport motorcycles including the Akuma, PCJ 600, and Vader.

Rock-crawler suspension lets the Outlaw handle rough ground, and its agility suits off-road travel. Its limited gearing restricts maximum speed on long straights, where faster Off-Road vehicles can pass it. The open cabin leaves both occupants exposed to gunfire, and its tyres can be shot out, making bulletproof tyres advisable. Commented-out game data indicates that suspension upgrades were once planned but were not available.
