Dodo

The Dodo is shown in Grand Theft Auto VI’s first trailer at 0:13, in the opening establishing view, pulling a NINE1NINE banner. At 0:34, another aerial view shows it entering above the Leonida Keys. The aircraft has also appeared repeatedly in the second trailer and on the promotional website.

These appearances place the Mammoth-built monoplane in the leonida-keys region. The material shown confirms its presence and revised model, but does not establish GTA VI purchase options, seating, handling, or mission use.

The GTA VI Dodo remains close to its Grand Theft Auto V-era form, while receiving a more detailed overall finish. Visible additions include lights at the wing centres, an antenna on the fin, an engine intake, and tensioning hardware around the floats. Its propeller now has yellow-painted tips.

Its floats received the largest revision. They have top access hatches, ropes and hooks, visible rivets and panel seams, and grime collected at the waterline. A third paint colour can affect the floats, alongside newly seen paint schemes and liveries.

In Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online, the Dodo drew principally from the de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver. Its tail, side glazing, and floats instead borrowed from the Cessna 185 Skywagon. The result is a conventional piston-powered floatplane rather than the older series’ more distinctive Dodo form.

That HD Universe aircraft also functions as an interpretation of the 3D Universe Skimmer, which itself was a Dodo derivative. The V-era airframe used a high-mounted wing, a three-blade nose propeller, twin exhaust outlets beneath the nose, and large floats supported below the fuselage. The visible cylinders around the propeller identify its engine as radial in appearance, and its audio is shared with the Mammatus and Duster.

Mammoth’s Dodo returned in the enhanced editions of Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online as a seaplane, after an earlier version had been cut from GTA V. It is listed in the Planes class in both games, and as a Medium aircraft when placed in an Online Hangar.

The V and Online aircraft could use its wheeled float gear on water or land. It needed less runway than the Titan or Cuban 800 and accelerated well, although its floats imposed drag and extra mass that reduced speed and manoeuvrability. Its top speed was compared with the Duster, while its acceleration was compared with the Mammatus. Four occupants could travel with it: pilot and co-pilot sat inside, while two more rode externally on the floats and could use full-size firearms.

In story mode, completing the “Sea Plane” random event made the Dodo available at Lake Vinewood near Franklin’s new home and on the Alamo Sea by Galilee. It could then be bought through Elitás Travel for $500,000, or called through the extinct cheat and its associated phone number. The same cheat name refers to the extinct Mauritian bird that gave the aircraft its name.

GTA Online sold the Dodo through Elitás Travel for $500,000, though returning players initially received it free; from July 26, 2021, it became free for all players. Once converted to a personal aircraft, its uncovered surfaces accepted a primary colour, while one of four livery packages could be selected. The livery could not be removed, and its colours could only be changed by choosing another supplied package.

The standard aircraft was white with N-L24921 marked on its tail boom, industrial wheels derived from the Velum, and four available livery sets. In the maroon scheme, the registration marking could be misaligned, leaving part of the N cut off on the left side. At the Vinewood Hills spawn location, the aircraft could also appear inverted, preventing it from being flown.
